The 2017 Outwest Art Show and Sale and C.M Russell Live Auction

I’m excited to say that I will be attending the 2017 Outwest Art Show and Sale and C.M Russell Live Auction in Great Falls, MT. My art will be displayed in Room 142 at the Best Western Heritage Inn, and the event will run Wednesday, March 15 from 5-10pm, and Thursday – Saturday from 10am – 10pm.

Outwest Art Show and Sale – Tom Dean Sneak Peek

On Wednesday from 5-8pm, we’ll be having a sneak peak for my new work in Room 142. I have several new carvings that I’m excited to share with everyone, as well as some larger fish sculptures to view and purchase. We’ll have drinks and snacks available, and everyone is welcome to join.

Featured Artwork

I will be featuring 23 original sculptures along with a dozen hand-carved custom bracelets, some of which feature copper inlay, in my booth in room 142. The majority of my carvings feature native trout carved out of exotic woods of the world, but I will also be featuring a couple waterfowl carvings, including a Canvasback, which is carved from a block of Cocobolo wood with a Madagascar Ebony “water” base, and another carving made from a block of Kingswood, which is extremely rare. That carving has a “water” base of Black Walnut, and both of these exotic wood bodies and heads come from South America. I will also be featuring a hand carved nymph fly that I carved and placed on a “water” base. In addition to these sculptures, I’ll be showcasing hand carved exotic-wood custom bracelets. The copper inlays some of them feature were mined in Butte, MT and smelted in 1958 here in Great Falls.

C.M. Russell Museum Art In Action and Outwest Art Show and Sale Quick Finish

On Friday morning from 10 to 1pm, I will be participating for my first time in the C. M. Russell Museum’s Art in Action at the Meadowlark Country Club. I have carved all the pieces for a trout sculpture that I will put together at the event. 100% of the proceeds from the auction of these quick finishes goes straight to the museum. Immediately after Art in Action, I will be participating in another Quick Finish live auction at the Best Western Heritage Inn for the Outwest Art Show and Sale. This event will be from 2:30 – 4:30 on Friday. The general public is free to see and bid on all the quick finishes at this event.

C.M. Russell Museum Live Auction

On Saturday evening, I have a waterfowl carving titled “Shovelbill” in the main event for the museum – The Russell Live Auction, held at the Mansfield Convention Center. The auction starts at 4:30pm on Saturday and features an amazing collection of contemporary art and significant historical pieces. The body of my “Shovelbill” carving is Cocobolo wood of South America, the head is Tigerwood of Brazil, and the “water” base is Lignum Vitae, which is a green wood and comes from Belize. The lot# is 222 and can be bid on there at the event in the Civic Center, or online bid and phone bids will be accepted through the museum.
